Information on Great Glen Way
The Great Glen Way is 73 miles (117 km) long and was officially
opened by Prince Andrew in April 2002. Starting from the end of the
West Highland Way,
this excellent continuation northwards starts at Fort William and travels through a
great variety of landscape to its completion in the highland capital
city of Inverness.
From Scotlands highest peak, Ben Nevis at Fort William, the walk
takes you along the tree lined towpaths of the Caledonian Canal and
passes by the beautiful lochs of Loch Lochy, Loch Oich and Loch Ness.
The trek makes its way through various forest tracks and then over Ness
Islands and on to its finishing point at the Inverness
Castle.

After a long day of travel, start your walk at Fort William and walk the first few miles along
the way to Banavie, a splendid location with superb views of Ben Nevis
and the choice of two excellent establishments for dining - the moorings hotel and the Lochy Bar at Caol, just 100 yards along the Caledonian Canal
